Kakasaheb Barve and his band of devoted workers realized that it was not enogh to hold concerts and programmes. Some kind of educational activity also needed to be pursued with seriousness of purpose.
Trimbakrao Ranade, Rajabhau Sathe,Appasaheb Vaze and Bapurao Sathe helped to bring this about.The efforts began on 25th April 1944 and came to fruition on 1st August 1951.'Dinkar Sangeeet Vidyalaya' began its activities on that day.Under the able guidance of L.R.Wagh, students affilation to appear for the examinations held by the Gandharva Mahvidyalaya. Vasantrao Gosavi handled the Kalyan as well as the Mohone segment of the Vidyalaya. Since 1956, dance training classes also began to be held.
Among the students who fared well and scored distinctions at various examinations were Kunda Deshpnade, Hemlata Sovani,Dr.Arvind Kulkarni, Vimal Kelkar, Pratima Gokhale, Vasanti Ranade, Vijaya Bhat,Lala Dhanekar, Prachi Deosthali and Arun Puranik.
Noted acotr Shahu Modak and MLA Krishnarao Dhulap were the honourable guests at the silver jubilee celebrations. Vidyalaya works under the guidance
Parental institution Kalyan Gayan Samaj.
Training in the Kathak and Bharatnatyam form is being imparted here.Among those who actively taught the students are Shri Padmanabhan, Ms Palnitkar, Shri Krishnamani, Ms Muktabala Joshi. Ms Vandana Bhagwat , Ms Shubhada Pavgi & Dr. Asha Parasnis-Joshi have taught vocal music to students who have won several prizes at various competitions held all over Mumbai and Maharashtra.
Students of the Vidyalaya have presented musical plays which have won
handsome praise as well as prizes.
New experiments will be undertaken by the students and music-lovers who have come together under the banner of 'Shadja Pancham'
